Our Aims & Policies
Our aim is:
To encourage and enable local people to adopt healthy, low-carbon, low- waste lifestyles, and foster the development of a sustainable and inclusive local economy”.
That means we shall:
-
sell healthy organic food
-
reduce packaging and avoid unnecessary plastic
-
choose local suppliers
-
promote fair trade products
-
reduce our energy use
-
Sell products which help our customers reduce their carbon footprint
Organic healthy food and ethical products are often expensive. As we expand, we aim to keep our prices as low as possible by:
-
buying more products in bulk quantities
-
provide a refill service to reduce packaging
-
Operate with volunteers to add value to
our service
Ethical purchasing policy
All products we buy should have at least one (and where possible two or more) of the following
characteristics.

-
Environmentally friendly packaged - Zero plastic; own containers; recyclable containers
-
Organic / sustainable production
-
Locally sourced/ low food miles
-
Fairly traded or the equivalent where the product is not sourced locally
We currently hold stock which we acquired before we opened the shop, including products packaged in plastic containers and bags. Once Our Green Shop is running smoothly, we shall begin to convert to refills, minimally packaged and non-plastic packaging.
With the exception of older stock, wherever possible, we aim to phase out the use of plastic packaging for our products.
